The Accidental Coach

You know I never expected to become a Wellbeing Coach.

Wellbeing and fitness was all a bit too much like hard work to me.  It was what gym bunnies did and I really hated the gym.

My philosophy was to live my life, sample what life had to offer and if that meant chocolate, wine and the odd plate of fish ‘n’ chips so be it.   I worked hard, I was reasonably fit and active.  I wasn’t overweight, I was a bit of a night-owl but hey it wasn’t really doing me any harm, ‘moderation in all things’ as they say.

Well that’s all well and good when you’re young.  I had good genes, I’d be OK.  I mean the human body is designed to last a lifetime isn’t it?  Well yes if you treat it right and mostly I did but eventually life experiences catchup with us and if you don’t have good strategies to process the slings and arrows of life it’s hardly surprising we come a cropper now and again.

This happened to me.  About 10 years ago I began to feel unwell.  Nothing serious I was just tired, stressed, at times I just felt burned out.

I worked away a lot, spent time in hotels, drinking wine, eating big dinners, long hours.  Eventually travel and being away from home began to take their toll.  A bad back, then the weight crept on, headaches.  I just felt ill and I really didn’t have the time or luxury to go to the gym even if I’d had the energy.  It was taking all I had to get through the day let alone live life at home.

Eventually I got to the point of ‘the straw that broke the camel’s back’ and life began to implode.

They call it burnout.  You don’t necessarily burnout once in a lifetime, you can keep on doing it.

Over the last 10 years I’ve been through a whole process of learning to support my own mental health and wellbeing after experiencing the highs of chronic stress and anxiety followed by the lows of chronic fatigue and depression.

What I’ve learned along the way I wish I’d known years ago.  My determination not to follow a medicated route and to get to the root cause led me to functional medicine and to find alternative ways to bring myself back to health.  It became a passion that led to courses on Trauma Recovery, Personal Resilience, Mental Health First Aid, Mindfulness, Somatics, Parts Work, TRE to name but a few that eventually led to a quest to empower others.

The Health and Wellbeing Coach was born.

These days self-care is at the core of everything I do.  It has to be.  I manage my energy carefully and do all I can to stay in balance.   My work is now my hobby and crucially I now have enough spare energy to enjoy my relationships and interests.  I love learning Astrology hence my love of the moon and love travelling for pleasure.

A Perigee Moon is a Supermoon.  It is bigger, brighter and nearer Earth.  Grounded.

I look forward to meeting you where you’re at.
